02 - Add 2 cups of cold water and blend on high speed until completely smooth.
03 - Strain the blended mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large pitcher to remove pulp, pressing firmly to extract all the liquid.
04 - Stir in the remaining 1 cup of cold water. Taste and adjust sweetness as desired.
05 - Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes if time allows, or serve immediately over ice.
06 - Pour into glasses and garnish each serving with pineapple wedges, fresh basil sprigs, and lime slices if desired.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • It tastes like summer in a glass but requires zero cooking skills or fancy equipment.
  • The basil adds an unexpected herbal layer that people never quite expect from a fruity drink.
  • You can make a pitcher and forget about it in the fridge, ready whenever thirst strikes.
02 -
  • Don't skip the straining step no matter how impatient you are—pulp changes the entire texture and makes it feel more like a smoothie than the elegant drink it should be.
  • Overblending bruises the basil and can turn it bitter, so stop as soon as the mixture is smooth.
03 -
  • Taste the water from your pitcher before blending—chlorinated tap water can dull the bright, clean flavor, so filtered or bottled is worth the small effort.
  • Don't throw away the pulp strained from the mixture; it makes an excellent base for popsicles or a smoothie bowl the next morning.
